celebrating clay

pots with energy

Ceramics in heavily grogged, textural clays, terra cotta and black clay, sometimes adding china clay, ball clay and minerals from local sources. The style is direct and energetic, reflective of my drawing.  I aim for a sense of vitality in the shape, and directness in the use of materials, one concern informs the other.

 background
I worked as a scenic artist for many years, in theatres all around Britain, so I have always been  involved in the arts. As a mature student I returned to art college to study ceramics, my first love, and in which I retained a strong interest. I was awarded a BA Hons in Ceramics at Plymouth College of Art in the summer of 2016, and I am now continuing my studies to MA level, doing this on a part-time basis at Bath Spa University. I'm also making and exhibiting, and my facilitation/teaching work is ongoing, in my studio and on site.
I have always been interested in inclusivity in the arts, and have worked with people with disabilities of various kinds throughout my career. Clay is a wonderful medium for self expression, and for enjoying the challenges of learning skills, thinking with one's hands and concentrating on something other than the day to day.

I firmly believe that 'making is good for you'.

See page 1 for details about the new studio, very exciting for us, a wonderful location on Dartmoor, more space, and inspiration everywhere you look, an amazing  place to come and make.

My MA in ceramics at Bath Spa University continues. Two modules are completed, and I'm almost settled  into the new studio.

I write a blog, details below, as a part of my course.
